Sunday Snippets - 8th November 2015

The last week has been quite a struggle with my health not being great and things still being pretty busy, so I’m really glad it’s now the weekend (although it’s going way too quickly!) The weather seems to have really changed over the last week or two – the leaves are now a range of shades of brown, orange, red and yellow and there’s a crisp autumn chill in the air. Although I love it to be sunny and warm, I do love autumn when it’s beautiful like it is now. I’m not so keen on the rain, but as long as I’m snuggled up by the fire with a blanket and hot chocolate I can let that one slide!

I was planning quite a quiet Sunday last week, but after breakfast I got a text from my brother asking if I’d like to go to Hobbycraft with him and his fiancĂ©. I couldn’t resist, so they pushed me around the shop and I picked up a few little bits. I was hoping to get more materials for wrapping Christmas presents, but I couldn’t find anything I really liked, so I’ll have to keep looking. The rest of the day was much quieter – I did a bit of blogging and rested on the sofa.

Monday was a really hectic day, and by the end of it I felt pretty awful. I had Uni as normal in the morning, and then had a chat with the manager of Pizza Express at lunchtime to sort out last minute details for the Blogger Meet-up. I then went to my local salon to have my hair coloured, so it’s now not a rainbow of random colours and it feels much better. Last but not least, I had to go to the doctors for an asthma check-up, which went OK but I found out some of my blood tests have come back abnormal. This cute postcard came in the post from one of my friends who came to my birthday meet-up.

Thankfully my Tuesday was a bit quieter, which was good, as I really needed a bit of down time. In the morning I had my last ever STEPPS group, which felt quite scary, as I’m worried about what will happen next and whether I’ll be left to deal with things alone. We had to do a weekly questionnaire, which then gave us a score – the idea was that as we progressed through the course our score would decrease. Well, typical me, my score gradually increased instead, so we’re going to discuss that next week in my follow-up appointment. My afternoon was spent resting and doing various little jobs on my laptop. I received a letter from the hospital with a date for me to see the breast surgeon in a couple of weeks, so hopefully he will be able to confirm what the lady doing the scan said.

On Tuesday afternoon I popped to the chemist with my Mum to pick up my prescription of Fortisips. They usually come in boxes, but for some reason this time they were all loose (and there’s quite a lot of them!) My Mum had to go back to the car to get some bags to put them in, but because they were so heavy we then had to go and find a trolley so we could get them back to the car. At least I’m sorted for nutrition for a few more weeks!

Wednesday was fairly chilled out. My Dad and I had to go over to Twyford in the morning to pick up some Jude’s Ice Cream that they have kindly donated for the Blogger Meet-up. We were meant to leave at 10am, but I ended up oversleeping so we were a bit late. When we got back I fell asleep on the sofa until the middle of the afternoon. I’ve always struggled with chronic fatigue, but at the moment it’s on another level and really hard to cope with. I managed to get a bit of Uni work done in the afternoon, which included reading a celebrity magazine.

Thursday was my full day at Uni, which was a bit of a nightmare with how unwell I’m feeling at the moment. At lunchtime I headed to Starbucks, which is just over the road from the Uni, with my support worker and my friend Nina. I was excited to get my first red cup, so treated myself to a soya honey and almond hot chocolate, which was just amazing! I also decided to get myself a Starbucks card, and chose this cute little red cup design.

On Friday I received a couple of lovely cards in the post from penpals, which always make me smile. In the morning I had another session of the pain management course, and we each had to set ourselves a goal for the next week. Mine is to schedule in some proper ‘me time’ so I can try and get some rest and relaxation into my life. My GP then rang to discuss my blood test results. In her words, my iron levels are ‘super low,’ so she wasn’t surprised I’m feeling so exhausted and unwell. She wants to get them back up as quickly as possible, so I’m now taking iron supplements in the hope my digestive system will absorb it. My blood sugar and neutrophils are also low, but we’re going to chat about them when I see her in just over a week. I also had my afternoon lecture, which I really struggled to concentrate on.

Although yesterday wasn’t technically Bonfire Night, our local display is always on the Saturday closest to the 5th November. First thing, my Dad and I went over to Guildford to pick up some goodies from Champneys for the Blogger Meet-up. I ended up sleeping for the rest of the morning, which is frustrating as I have so much to do, but am just so tired. I did a few little jobs during the afternoon. Our local fireworks display is on a school field, so there was no way I was going to get my wheelchair there after the weather we’ve had recently. So we ended up going to the end of our road, and I sat there in my wheelchair ready to watch the display. I always like to watch the fireworks, as I feel like it can’t be Christmas until I’ve seen them! They were really good though and I enjoyed watching them with my Mum and two sisters.

If you haven’t read my blog before, I just wanted to let you know that I have a second blog, which mainly focuses on my health in more depth than I talk about it here. It’s largely for friends and family to follow and keep up with what’s going on, but if it’s something you would be interested in reading as well, you are more than welcome to follow me over there. It’s called Unicorns and Floral Crowns and you can find it by clicking here. I’m also trying to post on Snapchat a bit more, so if you fancy following me, my username is Jennycole44.

What have you been up to this week? I always enjoy hearing about your news and adventures!
