In my life this week…

Royal London Hospital appointment

This week I headed into London with my Dad. I seem to have turned into a bit of a pro at getting into London with my wheelchair, although there are always stumbling blocks that seem to get in our way. We had to get the tube from Waterloo, on the Waterloo and City line, but unfortunately there is no lift to get you to those platforms. Thankfully though there is an escalator, so I got onto that with Dad behind me with my chair. Getting on and off the tube wasn’t too bad, and we then got a bus for the last part of our journey to take us through to Whitechapel. Unfortunately the clinic was running almost two hours late, and because I was already feeling quite unwell that day, one of the nurses ended up coming out to check me over and make sure I was OK. The actual appointment went well. I explained how much the symptoms I’m getting are still affecting me, and they’ve decided to try me on a different drug, which is meant for people who suffer from dysmotility and it is supposed to help speed up your digestive system. Apparently it is likely to make me feel pretty rough when I first start taking it, so I’m not looking forward to that, but hopefully it might help. They have also asked me to take part in some new research into using functional MRI’s to diagnose people with my problems, so I will be going up to UCLH at some point to undergo some tests, which is quite exciting to be contributing to research!

Laudree macaroons

After my hospital appointment, Dad and I got the bus back to our half-way point, and just so happened to stop outside a Laudree shop. I have often seen people posting purchases from there, and it’s something I have always wanted to try, so we decided to make a little pit-stop and take a look round. It was just as I had imagined it would be – full of beautiful pastries, colours and scents. I decided to treat myself to a box of 12 macaroons, and basically chose one of every flavour! I’m slowly getting through them and they really are the best macaroons I’ve ever tasted!

Festival Place Valentine’s sculpture

Yesterday I headed to my local shopping centre, Festival Place in Basingstoke, where they have installed a silver heart sculpture just in time for Valentine’s Day. I’m not going to say too much about it in this post, as I have lots of photos to share with you in another post, but basically it is one of these sculptures that people can attach a padlock to. I’m looking forward to sharing my photos with you.

What has grabbed your attention this week? I love hearing about people’s new discoveries and you may end up sharing something that makes it onto my list next week!
