Sunday Spotlight - 10th August 2014

In my life this week…

Great British Bake Off

I was so excited this week to see that Great British Bake Off was back on our screens. I loved watching previous series and those beautiful pastel Kitchen Aids leave me dying to furnish my own imaginary kitchen! And after one episode I’m already obsessed again! I thought the tasks this week were fantastic, especially the miniatures challenge because, after all, who doesn’t like something in miniature form!? I’m already excited for next week’s episode.

Bunting

This is something that has actually been going on for the last few weeks, but I haven’t been able to say something about it until today. My brother and his fiancĂ© had their engagement party yesterday and we had spent weeks making them some personalised bunting. It took us four sewing machines (don’t ask!) and a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but we were really happy with the end result. Instead of doing your typical bunting, we decided to make it harder for ourselves by making the flags heart-shaped. This was our first challenge and after cutting out 64 material hearts I could quite happily never have seen a heart again! But it was worth it in the end to see all the positive reactions to it at the party. I just hope we’ll be able to use it for another event, as it seems a shame to not use it again after all the effort that went into it.

Hydrotherapy

As I think I’ve mentioned previously, I started physiotherapy a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I’ve been getting a lot of problems and pain with my joints and my physio was concerned that the exercises I was doing were actually making me worse rather than better. So, he decided to refer me for some sessions in the hydrotherapy pool, and my first session was this week. I was pretty scared about it to be honest. Firstly the thought of wearing a swimming costume fills me with fear, but it’s something I really want to get over as I’ve bought myself a bikini to wear on holiday. I’m also not a very good swimmer and often get panic attacks thinking I’m going to drown if I go under water. But thankfully I managed the session and feel so much better about it now. The pool is shallow enough that you can touch the floor and keep your head above water and it felt lovely to be in the water and able to move with less pain than I get out of the water. Sadly the next few days I was in a lot of pain, but I’m hoping as I build up my time in the pool the pain will begin to reduce. I am now considering checking out my local pool to see if I can do more regular swimming sessions.
